The new Netflix series Black Warrant takes audiences inside one of the largest prison complexes in India, Tihar Jail. The story follows Sunil Gupta, a jailer new to the compound, who comes face to face with the many dangers, dramas, and infamous criminals inside.
The series is based on the memoir Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by the real life Sunil Gupta. Gupta recounts his time enacting “black warrants,” or a jailer’s right to execute a convicted criminal, along with the rest of his experience working in the prison.

- Zahan Kapoor as Sunil Gupta: The main character of the limited series. Kapoor made his film debut in action thriller Faraaz also streaming on Netflix.
- Rahul Bhat as Rajesh Tomar: Bhat stars as DSP Rajesh Tomar, a senior jailer. Starring in mainly Hindu films, Bhat was picked for the role after showrunners saw his performance in the 2023 Cannes film Kennedy, as per Variety.
- Paramvir Singh Cheema as Shivraj Singh Mangat: Cheema is best known for starring in the Hindi musical thriller series, Chamak, and his role in felloe Hindi-Punjabi streaming show, Tabbar.
